Description: This week as a technology user I have been working to develop a wiki page that my students can access and use to post responses. I have been working to develop a way to fit this into my curriculum and find ways to get technology into my students’ hands.
Impact: When I wrote my PACV a few weeks ago I began to think about how I could incorporate more technology into my teaching. I struggled to come up with artifacts that I could use to prove that I am using a verity of technology in my classroom. Since I wrote the PACV, I have been looking where I could use technology to enhance what I was already teaching. As I looked for these opportunities I got to this weeks reading. As I read this weeks material about 21st century teaching and learning I realized just how important it is to integrate technology use into my classroom. I realized that I need to do this, not only to enhance what I am already teaching, but to give students skills that they will use as they enter the workforce of the 21st century. As a 21st century teacher, I have an obligation to let students explore and guide their learning opportunities. Thinking of all these factors, I found a few places where I could use our schools limited technology resources within my lesson planning.
Intent: My first class of the day is a 45-minute reading class. The focus of this class to is to get books and other good reading materials in their hands and to give students strategies that will help them become good readers. Seventh graders have a tendency to get as little tired of sitting and reading so I try to make this class as interactive as possible while still getting as much reading time as passable. What I am working on is a wiki page that students can access during this class. There is not much use of our computer lab at this time of the day, so I can probably have daily use of the lab. On the wiki page, each student has a page that they can access and post a daily summary or whatever other daily prompt I might give them. I plan to set up some other pages where students can post a review of certain books that I have in my classroom. Students will be able to access this to help decide what book they want to read. I am sure there are also many other ways I could use this page that I haven’t even though of yet.
