Description: The assignment was to read and get familiar with the NETS, NETS-T, NETS-S, and NETS-TF. We were also to read the intro the chapter 1 from Technology Facilitation and Leadership Standards. After reading the material, we were to reflect on our use of the technology standards in our classroom and in our personal use and how are our knowledge of the standards has changed.
Impact: Honestly, before the beginning of this class I had no idea that there were even technology standards. I consider my self a little bit of a techno savvy person and I figured there were some standards somewhere, but I had never seen them and had never been told about them. Now, I not only know that there are a few basic standards, but that there is a very extensive and in depth list of them. Getting familiar with the standards was good for me in two ways. I now have some direction when I am integrating technology into my classroom and I also have developed some good ideas of how to give students more opportunities to experience all facets of technology available to them. Learning all this makes me feel more comfortable with the technology that I already integrate and gives me directions as to where I should add some more.
Intent: The standard that stuck out to me the most was the first NETS-T; Facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity. I will find more ways for students to "creatively" reflect and collaborate in my classroom. I don't give my students enough time or opportunities to really explore the other resources out there, other than paper and pencil. I will use all the resources available to me to give student the best opportunities posable to expand their thinking and learning. Due to the lack of technology in my building it will be a challenge, but I will also find ways to involve the other standards in my classroom.
This weeks experience with technology: This past week our school received 60 new HP Netbooks. They were available to sign out a set for your classroom. I got to use them just one day, but after spending some time exploring with them I have already came up with many ideas to incorporate them into my class. They are very portable and easy to use, which eliminates many of the management problems that came with other bigger laptops.
